Charlie loves Sir Sandford  Fleming Park - the Dingle!

This is a picture of the Dingle - Sir Sandford Flemming Tower

The Dingle is a great place because there are a couple distinct and different areas to go to.

You can go down to the beach area and walk along the water - there is a gravel walk that goes quite a way in either direction.

Or you can park up in a parking lot on the Purcell's Cove Road and walk around an area called the "Frog Pond".  Both areas are also connected in case you want to do it all. The Dingle/Beach area would be great for a picnic or throwing the ball/frisbee or for watching the boats out on the harbour.

The Dingle building itself isn't all that much to write home about - basically just a short tower that you climb stairs to the top and look down.  I am afraid of heights so I wouldn't go up it! (I said I wouldn't go up because the dog was scared of heights!).  There is also a playground in the beach area but dogs aren't allowed on it. There is lots of parking.

This is an example of trail along the shoreline that you can walk for quite a while along the arm.  It is very nice and easy walking.

If you want to go to the beach area you turn in at the sign that says "Flemming Park" and then immediately turn left at the sign that says "Dingle Park area" and drive to the bottom of the road to the parking area.  If you want to go to the nature walk around the Frog Pond continue on Purcell's Cove past the "Flemming Park" sign and look for a parking lot on the left.  You can go in there, or walk down the road to the other side of the pond and go into the trail that way.

Another good thing about the Dingle/Frog Pond area is that the nature is a lot prettier than Point Pleasant Park.  There are parts of Point Pleasant that have been almost completely devastated by logging and the wind blowing trees over by their roots.

The trees around the Frog Pond all almost all very healthy and still pointing upwards! The day we were there it was a beautiful sunny day on the "Frog Pond" and at the same time on the beach it was foggy and cold.  Good old Maritime weather.

And Charlie somewhere around the pond got chest deep in that awful stinky black mud.  I don't know when it happened but it was a mess.  He seemed to enjoy it though!

So the Dingle and Frog Pond Park gets a 2 paws up for variety and ease of walking and parking.  If you are in the Spryfield/Purcell's Cove area you should check it out!

This is a picture taken from the shoreline of the Frog Pond.  The scenery is totally different than along the harbour side of the park!

Charlie loves Halifax has been on the internet since May of 2002 and has had over 1,000,000 hits from local dog lovers since then.  It is a site maintained completely and solely by one (1) person and her dogs completely and utterly for her own pleasure and her personal beliefs about how she would like the Halifax Regional Municipality to become more dog friendly, and what she believes to be a lovely view of what the world is, and how what it can become.  If you agree with her view of this dog-centric world - that is super-fant-abulous.  If you don't - that is too bad, but that is your opinion - just as everything on this website is - the opinion and beliefs of one person.  If you believe them to be anything more than that - you have been mis-informed and have given me an importance anyone would lust after, but I certainly do not covet.  Thanks for reading....
