Charlie loves Jack's Lake - and this spot too!!
|
Jack's Lake is directly off the Hammond's Plains Road.
You get to it by turning onto Smith Street, and looking for a small parking lot. I have been there since I wrote up this page - but that's not where this spot is. There is also a nice straight road that was built by the Water Commission and was to be used for a jail (which deal fell through I think). There is a small gravel parking lot just before Smith Street with a metal barrier. Park there to get to this spot. This road goes and goes.
If you are interested in walking and having a good thinking session this is the place for you. There's lots of stuff on either side of the road (but still not next to any kind of traffic) for the dogs to run through and over. If they like to walk on top of small cliffs then it will be perfect. There are also grassy areas if you want to stop for a minute to catch your breath and throw a ball.
I didn't notice any streams or brooks, so if it's summer bring some water for you and the dog. The road is big pieces of crushed gravel though. If your dog has sensitive paws and usually stays with you (meaning he doesn't run around like a banshee on all the nature that surrounds you), be careful. Charlie is the type of dog who regularly walks about 4 feet behind me (he has to keep his eyes on my pockets in case any kind of food substance fall out) and he limped for a couple days after our trip because the terrain was a little uneven for his toes. It's also a place to have great conversations while you are walking.
Which is what I was lucky enough to be doing when I went there with Lisa, Spinner and Riley. I think a good time was had by all.

Charlie loves Halifax has been on the internet since May of 2002 and has had over 1,000,000 hits from local dog lovers since then. It is a site maintained completely and solely by one (1) person and her dogs completely and utterly for her own pleasure and her personal beliefs about how she would like the Halifax Regional Municipality to become more dog friendly, and what she believes to be a lovely view of what the world is, and how what it can become. If you agree with her view of this dog-centric world - that is super-fant-abulous. If you don't - that is too bad, but that is your opinion - just as everything on this website is - the opinion and beliefs of one person. If you believe them to be anything more than that - you have been mis-informed and have given me an importance anyone would lust after, but I certainly do not covet. Thanks for reading....
