Charlie loves being healthy!

Health Related Doggy Businesses:

There's now enough local business for me to have a section just on health related doggy businesses!  That's great - people are taking the health of their companion animals seriously enough that individuals are able to get at least part of their income from their life passion - helping to make animals healthy.  I think that's awesome! (the photo at right is poor Charlie after he had ACL surgery on his back left knee a few years ago - yuck)

Animal Behaviour Consultant - F. Joan MacDonald gives seminars and consultations on animal homeopathy.  I personally have found homeopathy to be fascinating and very helpful with some very sick foster dogs that I've had in the past - and dogs can't tell a placebo effect or real medicine - so the stuff MUST work, I'd say!  And it's got lots of neat words like tinctures! Joan  islso a human homeopathic practitioner as well - she has a web site at http://pages.istar.ca/joanmacd/ - her email address is homeopathy@ca.inter.net

Pet Physiotherapist - Shelly Malcolm - from Pawsitive Action Physiotherapy helped Charlie when he was limping for months.  I was worried it was his hips because he is part Lab and I couldn't even figure out which leg it was that was bothering him.  The vet didn't seem too worried by it so I was trying not to obsess.  But Shelly did an on-the-spot assessment and could tell which leg it was and could tell it was a tricep muscle spasming and that I should massage it and this is what I should do and this is where I should do it!  Now, how many $100's of dollars and how many more trips to the vet would that simple analysis have cost me?  Her website is at pawsitiveaction.ca and her email address is shelly@pawsitiveaction.ca   - she's also helped Buttercup when she had HER knee replaced TWICE!  Dogs' knees can be expensive!

Dog Nail Groomer:  This used to be called "Jaynes Pet A Cure" - but has now changed to "Just for Pugs Pet a Cure Services  - Jayne comes TO your house and grooms your dog's nails!  Is that neat or what?  She uses a special machine - I think it's like a dremel type tool and your dog's nails will look better than your own! haha!  She's also on Facebook - and they've expanded their services to include pet-sitting and they've also got a treadmill for your little dog - they don't only do pugs, but they do only stick to small dogs.

Sunnyview Animal Hospital on the Bedford Highway in Bedford is a small but growing animal hospital that offers grooming services, laser surgery and vet services for dogs, cats and most exotic animals - a great alternative if you're looking for a new and better vet!

Full Circle Veterinary Alternatives - is a veterinary practice that offers traditional as well as alternative medicine for our companion animals and treats the whole animal in sickness as well as in health! Their website is quite substantial, so check it out!

Metro Animal Emergency Veterinary Clinic - is open when all of the veterinary hospitals are closed - so it's a vital service to all of us pet owners - they're located just inside the Burnside Industrial Park behind the unnecessary Pet's Unlimited at 201 #9 Brownlow Ave

Cloverfield Animal Behavioural Services in Brookfield Nova Scotia gives behaviour consultations for just about any kind of animal - cats, dogs, horses, goats - whatever you have they can tell you why they're being bad and how to fix it!   Beware of dog trainers who SAY they're animal behaviourists - but they are NOT!

Another dog behaviour expert - who is also the best dog trainer in Nova Scotia - is Silvia Jay.  I can't say enough good things about her - and her website is at http://www.voice4dogs.com/

Global Pet Foods  – they don’t sell live animals and they give tons of free stuff to local rescues.  Also, a lot of the food they do sell is actually good for your dog – unlike the awful Nutrience/Iams crap you’ll find at other pet stores.  So you should definitely consider spending your money politically, and at stores like Global! They have 3 locations - they are out in Bayer's Lake at 201 Chain lake Drive, in Bedford at the Bedford Commons on 30 Domascus Road, and in Dartmouth in the Westphal Plaza at 100 Main Street.

Charlie loves Halifax has been on the internet since May of 2002 and has had over 1,000,000 hits from local dog lovers since then.  It is a site maintained completely and solely by one (1) person and her dogs completely and utterly for her own pleasure and her personal beliefs about how she would like the Halifax Regional Municipality to become more dog friendly, and what she believes to be a lovely view of what the world is, and how what it can become.  If you agree with her view of this dog-centric world - that is super-fant-abulous.  If you don't - that is too bad, but that is your opinion - just as everything on this website is - the opinion and beliefs of one person.  If you believe them to be anything more than that - you have been mis-informed and have given me an importance anyone would lust after, but I certainly do not covet.  Thanks for reading....
